RHINOPLASTY

Rhinoplasty is the surgery where the nose is remodeled. The aim of this surgery is to obtain the nose shape which will best match with person’s face and provide the most natural appearance in ordinary dimensions by examining the nose structure and its proportion to the face.
While nose is the most remarkable organ just in the middle of the face, it also plays an important role in breathing. Therefore, rhinoplasty is one of the most specialty operations of aesthetical surgery. Rhinoplasty surgery remodels the nose aesthetically and it also heals breathing problems.
The aim of rhinoplasty is to form a nose which has a proportion and size compared to other facial formations and a good breathing function. For us, the best ones are the noses which are not recognized to undergo aesthetical surgery by others, have no asymmetry, are in harmony with the facial proportion and natural.
Post-surgery doctor-patient discussion is rather important. Surgery decision should be given after patient’s expectations are understood by the doctor and determining whether such expectations are realistic or not and that to what extent they can be met, and the following period should be planned.
Rhinoplasty can be carried out under local or general anesthesia, however I generally prefer general anesthesia for the sake of patient comfort and working conveniently. Surgery is performed through closed technique from the incisions within the nostrils or through open technique from a small incision at the place where the nose tip is closest to the lip. No visible scar will result from this tiny incision in the future. As around the world, I mostly prefer the open technique, as well because the nose anatomy is revealed well and results are better.
Rhinoplasty surgery lasts for approx. one and a half to two hours. Patients do not feel pain after the surgery thanks to the long-acting local anesthetic administered under nose skin during surgery.
It is not needed to stay at the hospital after the surgery. Some swelling and bruises occur under the eyes; the swelling and bruises which are most severe on the day after the surgery generally disappear completely within 7 to 10 days. Swellings on the nose heal to a great extent within the first 15 to 20 days, however it takes 6 months to 1 year for the nose to take its complete shape.
