DERMABRASION
Dermabrasion is the skin grinding procedure applied for reducing the rough appearance on the skin surface. It is mostly applied for the treatment of the traces left by the recovered pimples, accident or operation scars or the thin wrinkles on the skin, especially around the mouth.
The procedure consists of peeling the most superficial skin layer by abrading with an engine-powered, rotating abrasive disk. The most superficial skin layer is peeled by abrading. When this layer is abraded, the surface is renewed with a smoother, younger and tighter skin as the wound heals.
Operation is performed under sterile operating room conditions. Generally, dermabration application for once can be sufficient; however it may be necessary to apply dermabrasion for 2 to 3 times in deep burnt and acne sequelae. In such cases, the time between two dermabrasions is approx. 6 months.
Open wound occurs on the treated areas after the operation. Special, non-adhesive dressing materials are applied on the wound after spreading pomade. The recovery and closure of wounds take 7 to 14 days in proportion to the application depth. When a healed wound is covered by a new skin layer, it has a pinkish color. Pinkish color fades with the time and skin gains the normal color within several weeks. Consequently, a smoother, tighter and fresher skin cover is achieved.
It is normal that color changes, especially redness, occur on the application areas after the session. These disappear in a short time by itself. After redness, skin eruptions by scaling may be expected.
Application is not recommended to be performed in summers. Make-up is not put on for two weeks. After this procedure, protection against sunlight should be ensured by applying high factor protectors to the operation area before exiting to the open air.
