SCAR REVISION

Scars are the marks which catch the attention on skin and can be differed from the natural appearance. This can be obscure or as severe as limit the movements. Certain body parts (back, shoulders, frontal chest, etc.) are more sensitive to scars. A cut caused by an injury or a surgical wound always leads to a permanent mark no matter how carefully and properly it is repaired. However, it is important that this trace is acceptable and concealable. There is no surgery without a trace. There is no suture technique called aesthetical suture. Stitches cannot be put via laser. It is not possible to annihilate the scars. Wound recovery varies considerably from person to person. The characteristics of wound recovery differ according to age, race, genetic factors and the wound area on the body. If the scar is in a condition that affects the appearance, its clarity can be reduced through some interventions; however, these cannot be annihilated completely. The surgical method to be applied varies according to scar properties.
In some people, scars recover in a way leaving a raised, quite stiff, itchy, red colored and bad trace overflowing from the skin surface. The scar formation developed like this is called keloid. Keloid develops depending on the factors such as age, race, genetic factors and the wound area on the body. If it is understood that keloid will develop during the recovery of a wound, its development can be stopped by using steroid containing pomades or applications of silicone cream or silicone bandage. When keloid has developed, surgical revision is not considered except for special cases. This is because that keloid develops again when the wound caused by surgery heals. In such cases, steroid containing drug injections administered within the keloid and silicone bandage applications are more reasonable. Surgery can be considered only for the revision of the keloids which spread on a large surface, disturb the person and do not respond the applications other than surgery.
The basic method in the treatment is the ablation of the scar by incising around it and stitching again with thin sutures. Another factor influencing the scar recovery negatively is tension. The tenser the suture line, the worse the scar will become afterwards.
You may encounter with an appearance worse than the previous one after the operation, but it is not a panic case and will have a much better appearance approx. within 6 to 12 months.
