NIPPLE AESTHETICS
Nipple deformities may cause aesthetical, functional and psychological problems. We basically encounter with 3 problems on nipples.
Inverted Nipples
Inverted nipple is an aesthetical defect about which many women abstain from mentioning to others. As the mammary ducts open to the nipples, if this part is inverted, it is difficult for the baby to grasp the nipple and it prevents normal milk flow. Its treatment is surgical. The bonds retracting the nipple are cut and temporary or permanent support s placed under the nipple. Patient can be discharged from the hospital on the same day.
Nipple largeness
Large nipple is a condition that impairs the aesthetical appearance rather than being a functional problem. It is possible to solve this problem through a simple intervention on the nipple. After the surgery, mammary ducts are protected, no lactation problem occurs, normal sense of nipple is preserved and a normal appearance is achieved. Surgery is carried out under local anesthesia and generally takes approx. 30 minutes. It is not necessary to stay at the hospital and one can return to work on the following day.
Areola largeness
Areola is the name given for the round brown area around the nipple. As women’s breasts become larger especially during pregnancy, areola diameter starts to expand. This problem that causes only appearance problems can be simply corrected with interventions reducing areola diameter. The skin on the part which is out of the areola diameter accepted to be 4 to 5 cm can be reduced by removing in a ring form. Surgery scar recovers by leaving a slight circular-shaped trace around the nipple.
