OCULOPLASTIC SURGERY
Eyelids protect the eye from external influences. Oculoplastic surgery is the name given for the surgical procedures on eyelid and its surroundings. It covers dropping eyelid (ptosis), eyelid traumas, dropping brow, surgical treatment of the tumors occurring around the eye and all aesthetical procedures performed on eyelid and its surroundings.
Ptosis is the dysfunction in the muscles lifting the eyelid up. It may occur congenitally or due to external factors or aging. Treatment options include surgically reducing or strengthening the muscles lifting the eyelid up or suspending the eyelid through special suspension methods.
Under eye bags or fat accumulations called xanthelesma occurring subcutaneously generally due to high cholesterol may arise. These are corrected by means of oculoplastic surgery and the patient gains a younger and alive look.
