GYNECOMASTIA
When the breast tissue becomes larger than normal in men, this is called gynecomastia. Normally, men have breast tissue, as well; however they do not become larger for hormonal reasons. Single or double-sided growth may occur due to extreme fatness, drug use and hormonal disorders. There is no known reason in the majority of the cases. However, it should be firstly examined whether there is a reason such as tumor systemic diseases by applying differential diagnosis.
The most suitable candidates for the surgery are those who have a tight and flexible skin. Breast consists of 2 main tissues: Adipose tissue and mammary glands. Gynecomastia is classified according to the increase in such tissues and the treatment method is determined. In glandular type gynecomastia, enlargement is caused by mammary glands. In adipose type gynecomastia, enlargement is caused by the increase in the adipose tissue. The type where both the adipose tissue and mammary glands become larger together is called mixed type.
Surgical technique depends on the tissue which became larger. Liposuction is applied for the gynecomastia caused by adipose tissue increase. The enlarged parts of the mammary glands are ablated in the gynecomastia caused by mammary gland enlargement. It is required to perform lifting procedure for the skin excess remaining after liposuction in the people with very large breasts.
After gynecomastia surgery, you can be discharged from the hospital at the night of the same day or on the following day. There is no much pain after the surgery, so you can continue to your daily life as normal.
