LIPOSUCTION
A proper diet, exercise and a steady lifestyle is an obligation for getting rid of excessive weights. However, stubborn fat accumulations which do not disappear even in the people meeting those conditions may be present. Certain body parts such as abdomen, waist, hips, outer and inner part of thighs and knees are the fat accumulation areas resistant to diet and exercise.
Liposuction procedure is the method of removing the subcutaneous fat accumulations by using vacuum and fine cannulae. The patients ideal for liposuction are those who cannot dissolve the adipose tissues on certain areas despite adequate diet and exercise. However, liposuction is not a weight-loss surgery. After applying liposuction method, body cannot produce fat cells to return those areas to the previous condition, i.e. the result is permanent.
We can examine the liposuction operation under 4 topics. These are classical wet liposuction, Vaser (ultrasound-aided liposuction), laser liposuction and Invasix (radiofrequency liposuction).
Classical wet liposuction is the modern and safest liposuction method. Liposuction is performed through small incisions with a length of 2 to 3 mm. As the incisions are very small and hidden in fold areas, any incision trace is not remarkable in post-surgical period. Surgery area is inflated with a special liquid injection. Cannulae are attached to the vacuum device through transparent hoses. Cannulae are moved in suitable depth on fat accumulation areas and excessive fats are started to be removed. The procedure of suctioning the fats by means of vacuum continues until the desired body contour and also a smooth skin surface are achieved.
In Vaser liposuction method, excessive adipose tissue is disintegrated by the ultrasound waves emitted from the cannula and suctioned by means of vacuum. Laser liposuction helps burn fat through laser beams and Invasix helps burn fat through radiofrequency waves, and moreover, a clear tightening effect is observed on the skin in these procedures.
After surgery, patients are recommended to wear corset on the liposuction application area for 3 weeks. Recovery progresses slow. Surgeon may advise to stand up as soon as possible to prevent venous clot formations on legs after liposuction. The time for returning to work is determined by the size of surgery, how the patient feels and doctor’s recommendations. While the majority of the swelling and color changes disappear within 1 to 2 months, it may take 6 months for some swelling to disappear.
Complications may develop rarely as in all operations. If the operated field is too larger than normal, complication risk will increase naturally.
