HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
Hair loss occurs due to the reasons such as negative external physical conditions, genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalance, vitamin deficiency and anemia. Male type hair loss develops in those who have a genetic predisposition with the influence of testosterone and it is very difficult to prevent it.
As the hair follicles, especially on the forehead and back top area, are sensitive to the testosterone hormone in males, hair loss occurs with age particularly in those who have a genetic predisposition. The hair follicles on other areas are not lost because they are not sensitive to the testosterone hormone. Hair transplantation is the procedure of transferring the hair follicles that are not lost to the needed area.
The golden standard in hair transplantation is FUE procedure. It is based on removing and transplanting the hair one by one and it does not leave any mark. Channels are opened enough for each hair follicle. Transplantation is performed under local anesthesia and the person feels himself quite comfortable; pain is not felt during operation. Hair is taken from the back head, nape and the area between the ears that are not sensitive to testosterone.
Crusting is observed at the transplanted area after the procedure. The patient is recommended to wash his hair gently with a sensitive shampoo daily for 10 days. These washings prevent crusting. Such crusts disappear completely within 7 to 10 days and the transplanted area recovers. Afterwards, the transplanted hair strands are lost; however, what is lost is not the transplanted follicle but the hair strand, and this loss is normal. Thus, the patient recovers to the pre-transplantation condition within 15 days to 1 month. At the end of the third month, new hair starts to emerge. The real difference takes place starting from the sixth month and at the end of one year, patient owns the new hair in full.
The most important phase of having natural hair transplantation is the correct determination of the depth and angle of the channels to be opened for placing the follicles. Hair transplantation procedure may be performed in multiple sessions according to the condition of the patient. A correct and harmless placement is only possible with a plastic surgeon and a specially trained, experienced team.
Patients can resume their daily activities on the day after the procedure. It will be enough that they avoid only from smoking, heavy exercise and alcohol.
In hair loss, the medication consists of the drugs ‘Minoxidil’ and ‘Finasteride’ which are claimed to be effective in the patients who are at the age of 20 to 35, not completely bald, do not have an excessive loss on the front area and whose hair loss started at an early time. Drugs do not restore the hair lost and are not an alternative to hair transplantation.
